Alden Shipp

Since watching B-36 bombers fly over his boyhood home in Kansas, Alden Shipp has loved aviation of all kinds.

He built his first model at age eight. Cut out with razor blades and pasted together with flour glue, that first plane flew for about two seconds, crashed and broke apart. Still, it flew and that led him into his first engine model, a Testors hard plastic U/C. By college age he had graduated to a Ringmaster with a McCoy Red Head 29. His son Bruce still has that one.

Alden earned his commercial pilots license and for 30 years, with his wife’s blessing and support, flew for Moorman Mfg. Co in Quincy, IL.  Flying for the same company for 30 years and being married to the same wife for 50 years makes Alden a rare individual.

For the last twenty years Alden’s main interest is R/C Soaring.  He lives only 8 miles from Wilson Lake, one of the top 10 slope soaring sites in the US. He slope soars 2-4 days a week. He also enjoys helping local kids with their Science Olympiad projects and will teach anyone who is interested to fly R/C

Alden and his wife attend St Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, KS. Alden says that Jesus is an important member of his family and they thank him daily for dying for them.  He is sure of his salvation and hopes to live his daily life pleasing Jesus. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Alden has been the FCM treasurer since around the year 2000.
