Who Are You….Really?
To find a true answer to that question you have to separate what you do
from who you are. As hard as it is to convince ourselves we are not
defined by what we have done in the past. We are not defined by what
others have done to us, said about us or believe about us, including what
the Accuser of the Brethren says about us. We are not defined by our
talent or our lack of talent. We are not defined by our weakness, our
strength or our body’s makeup. Our definition lies in the finished work of
Jesus Christ.
When building a house you start with a foundation. Romans 8:1 “Therefore,
there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” That is
the foundation we must stand on. Our past is gone. God doesn’t remember it
and Satan can’t bring it back up. Refuse to listen to anything that you or
anyone else has to say about your past. There is now no condemnation.
Let’s put a protective roof over that foundation. Romans 8: 38 -39 “I am
convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither
the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor
anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love
of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You are not defined by your talent or you lack of talent. It doesn’t
matter if you head for the airfield and fly well enough to win the FAI
World Championship or if you take three planes out and come home with
three in pieces. You are not defined by your flying ability or the lack of
it. Whether job or hobby you are not what you do. Your failure or you
success does not separate you from the love of God.
If you think you are a body, then you will live subject to your appetites.
If you think you are your talents, then when you lose them, you have lost
you. If you think you are your past, then you will live in a cloud of
condemnation with your future already written, without hope. If you think
you are your weakness, then you will live subject to the accusation of
Satan and you will never overcome.
Read Romans 8. The Holy Spirit is mentioned 19 times with eleven important
thoughts. If you are rightly related to God through Jesus Christ,
submitted to his indwelling Spirit, then you are free, secure, destined,
purposeful, hopeful and at peace.
Look in the mirror and repeat this definition. “I am a child of the
King…created in His
image…destined…called…adopted…justified…redeemed…empowered…and free. I
serve my King with a living hope and the assurance of future glory. I know
who I am! |
