"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his
life for his friends." John 15:13
Memorial Day in Indiana always means the running of the greatest spectacle
in racing. The pageantry and colors of the event are always amazing.
What is even more amazing is to watch around 1/2 million people stand to
their feet and cheer as uniformed soldiers march down the straight away
carrying our colors. To hear the normally loud and rowdy crowd grow silent
as taps is played. To see old men and young men and ladies of all ages
wipe tears away as they honor those who have fallen for the sake of our
freedom.
Maybe on Memorial Day as we remember our fathers, our brothers, our
sisters and our friends that have served their country with the greatest
sacrifice they had to offer, we should also take time to remember the
greatest hero of all. Jesus Christ who lay his life down so that you and I
can take up ours.
My wife and I are preparing to leave to visit the graves of our fathers.
One served in Pearl Harbor and the other landing on Omaha Beach. Thank you
Lord Jesus for teaching us the true meaning of sacrificial living. Thank
you for giving us a chance to live with hope, love and charity. Most of
all, Jesus, thank you for our country and our freedom. God forgive America
her sins and continue to bless her that she can be a blessing to the
world. Amen. |
