You can’t pick up a newspaper or turn on a television news
program without hearing of the uncertainty of our times. Every day we hear
of terror plots uncovered, of bombs exploding and of violence around the
world.
We may not speak it out loud, but secretly we wonder, “Will that violence
touch my neighborhood, will it plague the ones I love?”
Our way of life has been crafted over the generations by hard work, faith
in God and sacrifice. We like the way we live and we don’t want to be
disturbed. We are more than willing to let others choose their way of
life, but we want to keep ours. Why can’t they understand that?
First as a Christian I have to remember that nothing I have compares to
the promise I have in Christ. We sing that as we worship at church,
“Nothing compares to the promise I have in you!” That must be at the core
of my being. All that we “have” in this world pales in comparison to what
awaits us when we see Jesus.
Second as Christians we need to hold to the truth of Romans 8:1. “There is
therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
I am not condemned and what I have now is nothing compared to what I will
have. That is the prescription for peace in troubled times. Praise God
from whom all blessings flow! |
