Psalm 33 tells us in the first verse to rejoice in the Lord and to praise the Lord. Then in the next two verses the writer extols us to make wonderful music to the Lord with stringed instruments, the harp and the lyre. What does the Lord consider wonderful music to Him? Well, in another place in scripture He tells us to “make a joyful noise.” I have the wonderful experience from time to time to set in front of a particular gentleman in my church who couldn’t carry a tune in a battleship. I mean, he is so far of it could be humorous – only it isn’t to me. As a musician, the first time I heard him I cringed, then the Holy Spirit nudged me and I realized that, even though this man can’t sing a lick, he was singing to God! Not to me! And what’s more, if I believe and accept scripture, God was loving every note of it! All too often we think of a lack in someone or some thing instead of considering the motive and heart behind that just may be worshipping through whatever we are criticizing.
Why not sing to God today and just burst out in praise and
worship in the middle of whatever you’re doing? He’ll love it! (And so
will you.) It’s spontaneous worship that touches God’s heart and ours from
time to time and makes life more than worth the troubles! |
