WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

Peter had already been told not to preach. Still he stood and proclaimed, "And there is salvation in no one else: for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."

The Sanhedrin were speechless. What could they say or do at that moment with an uneducated fisherman and the man standing with him who claimed to have been healed.

They did what all good politicians would do, they threatened them and turned them loose. You see they were afraid of public opinion and the power that they could see demonstrated by a group of rag-tag fishermen who had been with Jesus.

It is a good story, but the real lesson is what followed immediately upon their release. Peter and his companions lifted their voices with one accord

"O Lord, it is Thou who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David Thy servant dist say, "Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples devise futile things? (Ps 2:1) The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, And against His Christ." (Ps 2:2)

They prayed Scriptures. They reminded God that they were living out what was foretold in his word. It says that after they finished praying the place where they were was shaken. God’s word forms powerful prayers.

Praying Scriptures
There is nothing more powerful than the word of God. Jeremiah 1:12 says that God watches over his word to perform it. Like Peter and his companions we have a prayer language that God is already watching over. As you pray Scriptures you are telling God, what he told you to tell him.
You will never run out of things to say, your prayers will always be powerful and effective. No matter what your walk in life; pilot, farmer, pastor, engineer or retired and sitting on your front porch, you can open the Bible and find the words to help you pray.
