WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

In John chapter 9 you find the story of a blind man being healed from his lifelong affliction. Jesus spits on some dirt in order to make some mud and then places the mud in the blind man’s eyes. “Go and wash your eyes” he tells the man and the bible says that the man came away from the water seeing.

We usually end the story there and say “Wow, thank God for that miracle” don’t we? Do you realize that blind man, who Jesus healed, died a few short years later? The miracle of sight that he received that day was only a temporary thing. It didn’t last.

A few days after the miracle Jesus sees this man again and asks him “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” “Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him." Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you." Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

The greatest miracle was not the opening of blind eyes but instead the opening of that blind man’s heart. That miracle not only changed his life here on earth but prepared for him a life in heaven.

We are all born blind to the things of God because of sin. We “feel” our way through life needing a touch from Jesus. It is that miracle that He desires to perform the most. Scripture tells us that He is not willing that any should perish.

Those of us that have Christ as our Savior have already received the greatest miracle offered to mankind. For us there is prepared an eternal dwelling with God in Heaven. Praise be to God!

God’s blessings and good flying to all!
